meetings of geophysics, locals
absent animals, ancestors
drastically low sea ice, shrunken snow cover
wildfires

and that the whole region
is shifting fundamentally
it is that it is well
on its way to becoming
a place defined

by open dark ocean and pouring rain
rather than by sea ice and snow

all over the planet reports signaling
change happening so quickly
not much will stay as it is today

the “new arctic” discussion
has been largely within the confines
of science and academia: to see it become
general

we should congratulate ourselves
for having read anything
longer than the back of a cereal box:

so much chaos
so many distractions
here’s to hoping

the large polar change
is happening
out of the arctic
into our hearts
